Biotech firm Amyris has sold JVN Hair, the brand created in partnership with Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness, at auction for $1.25 million.

The business has been purchased by Windsong Global, which is also known for its investments in fellow beauty brands Revive and This Works.

Founded in 2021, JVN Hair is designed around hair concern, rather than hair type. It is open to all regardless of ethnicity, age or gender and is marketed under the tagline "come as you are".

The brand launched in the UK at Space NK last year and is also available at Cult Beauty and on its own website.

The sale of JVN Hair comes after Amyris filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August, with a strategy to offload its consumer brands to help position the company for long-term success.

Earlier this month, the company sold four other consumer beauty brands to the highest bidders at auction, including clean skincare brand Biossance to THG for $20 million.

Meno Labs, 4U and Pipette were also sold to Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Scent Theory Product and HRB Brands, respectively.
