Atelier Rebul marks 130 years with first London store amid global expansion
Istanbul-born perfume and lifestyle house Atelier Rebul has chosen London’s Marylebone High Street for its first UK store, marking both 130 years of heritage and the start of its global expansion.
Founded in 1895 by French pharmacist Jean Cesar Reboul, the brand has evolved from an Istanbul apothecary into an internationally recognised perfume maison with more than 1,000 points of sale across 21 countries. This includes an international presence at Sephora, Beymen, Douglas, Ounass and soon to be Galeries Lafayette, Harvey Nichols and Bloomingdale’s.
The London flagship, open now, introduces a fresh retail design concept that fuses scientific precision with poetic storytelling - a physical embodiment of what the brand calls "The Alchemy of Encounters". The brand's design language feels at home in Marylebone, an area known for destination retail that balances craftsmanship and cool.
The store, designed by studio Autoban, spans two floors and is described as a "sanctuary of fragrance and narrative". The upper level features Atelier Rebul’s signature collections, including Istanbul (a warm, spicy scent inspired by the city’s bazaars), Istanbul Bosphorus (an aquatic blend of sea salt and Turkish rose) and J.C.R. (a tribute to the brand’s founder). The lower floor offers immersive and bespoke experiences such as personalised perfume blending and curated gifting rituals.
Co-CEO, Nüket Filiba, said: "The UK is an important market for us, and we believe it is one of the best countries where we can showcase our 130-year heritage and perfume craftsmanship. As a brand inspired by the cultural richness of Istanbul, it is a great honour to bring this heritage to a global metropolis like London."
Co-CEO, Kerim Müderrisoğlu, added: "By bringing the cultural richness and multi-layered identity of Istanbul to the world, we both preserve our historical legacy and adapt to the dynamics of the global luxury market."
Atelier Rebul’s expansion comes amid a wider movement among heritage fragrance houses reasserting their artisanal roots while modernising for an international luxury consumer. For example, last year, Massimiliano Torti, the Italian perfumer who pioneered personalising signature scents by layering fragrances, arrived in London for the first time in 30 years with a new perfumery in Soho. The brand, which is offline-only, allows shoppers to create personalised scents designed to be layered.
