Beiersdorf, the owner of Nivea and Eucerin, has completed one of its "most successful financial years in recent history".

Group sales increased 10.2% organically to (€8.8 billion) in 2022, compared to (€7.6 billion) in 2021. All regions and brands contributed to Beiersdorf's growth, with European sales up 5% despite the war in Ukraine.

Nivea sales grew organically by 9.6%, with skincare and personal care reporting "substantial growth". This was driven by an "excellent balance between pricing and volume-driven growth".

Derma brands Eucerin and Aquaphor saw sales rise 23.9% to (€1 billion), boosted by all categories and regions. In particular, the Eucerin face care category and subcategories anti-pigment and acne were "key growth drivers".

La Prairie increased its organic sales by 1.9% to (€655 million), mainly due to the recovery of travel retail and an upturn in brick-and-mortar retail in North America. Sales in European countries continued to recover and the most recent launch, Skin Caviar Harmony, showed "excellent results" across all markets.

The group's healthcare business, which includes plaster brands Hansaplast and Elastoplast, recorded organic sales growth of 13.1% to (€261 million). This was driven by the "strong, consistent implementation of brand innovations", including sustainable plasters in the field of wound care.

Vincent Warnery, CEO of Beiersdorf: "2022 was an excellent year for Beiersdorf. For the first time in at least two decades, we delivered double-digit organic sales growth.

"2022 was also a challenging year in many respects, which makes us particularly proud of this excellent outcome and the profitable growth we have achieved. Thanks to the consistent pursuit of our C.A.R.E.+ strategy and our very well-balanced business portfolio, we can press ahead into the future more securely and with confidence."
