Bold brows and lips to top summer beauty sales trends
Brow care, lip gloss and fragrance look set to lead the beauty sales trends charge for spring and summer 2021, latest Shopping Data Highlights from Clearpay suggest.
Recent months have seen a “spike” in sales of eyebrow products with gels, pencils and powders proving popular, according to sales data from the UK buy now pay later provider.
Rising sales of products including e.l.f’s Eyebrow Kit, NYX Professional Makeup Control Freak Eye Brow Gel and Benefit’s The Great Brow Basics Brow Gel & Pencils Collection, indicated that consumers were drawing attention to their brows, whilst continuing to cover their faces with masks, as well as tidying up their brows as lockdown restrictions eased, Clearpay said.
Fragrance, meanwhile continues to top Clearpay's list of most popular beauty items as consumers turn to scent as a form of “escapism.”
Evoking the sunny grapefruit groves of coastal Spain, Jo Malone's uplifting Grapefruit Cologne was one of the most popular fragrances bought via Clearpay in the year to April 2021 along with Paco Rabanne Lady Million with its notes of Jasmine and Orange Flower.
And with events such as weddings and parties getting added to calendars, sales of “bolder” make up products including lip gloss are also on the rise, with sales of glosses from the likes of Look Fantastic and MAC via Clearpay up in recent months.
The months ahead were likely to see an even greater swing towards even bolder, more- colourful and sparkly make-up products, as shoppers sought out products that expressed hope and optimism, Clearpay’s trend futurist, Geraldine Wharry said.
“Along with the glitter, you can expect bright colours, such as oranges, pinks, and reds, to enter Brits’ wardrobes and make-up bags.
“Gen Z is certain to be at the forefront of this initiative, as they’re poised to be the fashion innovators of the future,” Wharry added.
MAC Cosmetics, Revolution Beauty and Estée Lauder were the top three beauty brands on Clearpay between April 2020 and April 2021.
