Boots has embarked on a weighty seasonal recruitment drive as it seeks to fill more than 5,500 roles ahead of the busy Christmas shopping period.

The health and beauty retailer is hoping to recruit up to 4,000 in-store Christmas Customer Advisors across the UK, as-well as 1,250 Christmas Warehouse Operatives and Picker Packers, ahead of an expected surge in sales and in particular, online orders this year.

More than 300 roles are also available at Boots’ customer support centre at in Nottingham.

Announcing the recruitment drive, Boots said that online orders were expected "to be extremely high this peak season."

Boots Head of Recruitment Donna Hodgins said: “Christmas roles at Boots are perfect for people who are interested in exploring roles in the retail industry and gain valuable work experience at the same time.

“We’re looking for team players with a passion for customer service, whether they are helping customers in our stores or over the phone or picking and packing online orders. In return, we offer excellent training and development and meaningful benefits.

“Plus, a Christmas role can lead to a permanent position with us, so it could be the start of a new and exciting career path.”

Around 1,000 of the seasonal warehouse operative roles will be based at Boots’ state-of-the-art distribution centre in Burton-on-Trent.

Staff at the centre work alongside 200 productivity-boosting robots dubbed “cobots” which  carry orders between picking stations and cut down the distance that warehouse teams need to walk.
