Boots owner Walgreens Boots Alliance has appointed healthcare management veteran Steven Shulman to its board of directors.

Shulman is the board's 11th member and also has seats on the boards of US-based VillageMD and CareCentrix, both companies WBA has a majority ownership interest. He was previously Chairman and CEO of Magellan Health Services, and Internet Healthcare Group, and prior to that as Chairman, President and CEO of Prudential Healthcare.

Stefano Pessina, Executive Chairman, Walgreens Boots Alliance said: “Steven is a tremendous addition to our board of directors. His vast leadership experience and in-depth knowledge across the healthcare spectrum will be invaluable as we move into our next phase of being a market leader at the centre of community healthcare."

Shulman added: “I am honoured to join the Walgreens Boots Alliance board at an exciting and pivotal time, and look forward to working with the board and leadership team to further the great momentum they’ve built. I am confident WBA will make an even greater impact in the communities it serves, by improving access and health outcomes, while lowering the total cost of care.”

WBA officially started the sales process of chemist retail chain Boots this week, with Bloomberg News estimating the sale is worth £7 billion.
