Beiersdorf, L'Oréal and LVMH are among a list of businesses that have achieved the highest ranking in the CDP environmental A List for 2022.

The non-profit's annual scoring system provides a snapshot of a company's environmental performance.

This year, businesses on the climate change A List increased 34% to 283 and the forest list rose 4% to 25. However, the number of those on the water security list decreased 12.7% to 103.

Five beauty businesses scored an A in all three categories, including Beiersdorf, Firmenich SA, Kao Corporation, L'Oréal and LVMH.

Other beauty businesses on the A List include:

  • Estee Lauder Companies for water.
  • Colgate Parmolive Company for climate and water.
  • Johnson & Johnson for climate.
  • Shiseido for water.
  • Unilever for climate and forests.

Dexter Galvin, Global Director of Corporations & Supply Chains at CDP, said: “In a year of ever-increasing environmental concerns around the world, the need for transformational, urgent and collaborative change is more critical than ever. Environmental disclosure is the first vital step towards a net-zero and nature-positive future, so A List companies should be commended for the level of transparency in their CDP responses.

"But we cannot ignore that these companies are in the minority. Most are still not managing all environmental issues holistically, and far too many are remaining complacent or failing to respond at all. Companies must step up to the challenge as CDP continues to lift the bar for what qualifies as environmental leadership."
