Beauty industry organisation, CEW, along with retail landlord, Landsec, have today announced they’ll be offering beauty businesses a chance to win a month's worth of rent-free retail space.

The competition, exclusive to CEW UK members, offers the winning brand the opportunity to occupy a space in one of Landsec’s retail destinations. This includes Bluewater (Kent), Westgate (Oxford), St David’s (Cardiff), Wandsworth (Southside), Trinity (Leeds), White Rose (Leeds) or One New Change (St Paul’s, London) for up to a one-month tenure.

The space will be a white box unit, which is not equipped with fixtures and fittings. Locations are subject to availability and the dates of occupancy will need to be agreed upon directly with Landsec and taken up within 12 months of the competition winner being announced.

Pop-up shops have become an increasingly popular trend. A 2023 study revealed that pop-up stores generate over £10 billion in revenue annually in the UK alone. These temporary retail spaces offer brands a unique opportunity to engage directly with customers without the long-term commitment of a permanent lease. The competition presents an opportunity for emerging beauty brands to capitalise on this.

The competition is officially open for applications and will run until 30 June 2024.

To enter, participants are required to enter via this link, submitting a brief document or a video attachment detailing their product and vision for the physical store.

Submissions should include:

  • Information about the product or service and its unique selling points.
  • Achievements and successes to date.
  • A description, sketch, or CGI of the proposed store experience, assuming a space of approximately 1500 sq ft.

Sallie Berkerey, Managing Director of CEW UK, said: "We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Landsec on this competition as part of our longstanding partnership as part of our mission of providing hands-on support for beauty brands in the dynamic British beauty industry. Pop-up shops such as those provided by Landsec are an excellent way for brands to engage with their customers directly. This initiative provides a fantastic platform for emerging beauty brands to showcase their products in a premium retail environment and we look forward to seeing the creativity and passion of the entrants."

Ruth McFetridge, Landsec Brand Director for Health & Beauty, commented: "People are increasingly focused on their self-care and wellbeing, which is driving growth amongst health and beauty brands. By offering experience-led shopping, brands are able to meet their audiences in person and develop deeper connections with their consumers. Crucially, innovation is key to the sector’s success, so we’re glad to be supporting emerging brands and help them bring their unique visions to life."
