Clarins has launched a new device designed to support advanced skin analysis in retail environments.

The AI Skin Observer is currently being rolled out in 20 stores worldwide, including John Lewis Oxford Street in London, as well as locations in Paris, Dubai, Milan, Shanghai and New York.

In parallel, a simplified web-based version of the AI Skin Observer is available on the Clarins website in several markets, including the UK, US and France.

How the AI Skin Observer works

By combining biophysical sensors with facial imaging captured under multiple lighting conditions, the AI Skin Observer analyses up to 22 skin parameters to enhance in-store consultations and support personalised skincare recommendations. It is integrated into existing consultation tables within Clarins retail spaces.

Katalin Berenyi, General Manager at Clarins, said: "The AI Skin Observer is designed to fit perfectly into our retail space. Through its ease of use, it allows beauty advisors to remain focused on listening to the client and her needs.

"It extends their expertise by revealing dimensions invisible to the eye, thanks to algorithms leveraging years of research from Clarins laboratory. By combining AI, beauty tech with human touch, beauty consultations are enhanced."

Part of the brand's broader research and development programme, the system reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovating the customer experience.

It is positioned as a digital extension of Clarins’ manual Skin Check, translating expert-led diagnosis into an advanced, data-driven format.

Laurent Malaveille, Chief Digital, IT & Business Support Officer at Clarins, said: "We are very proud of the AI Skin Observer, the latest beauty tech release from our innovation lab, and excited by the enthusiastic feedback from both our beauty consultants and the first customers who tested this new service."

Founded in Paris in 1954 by Jacques Courtin, Clarins is a family-owned global beauty group. The company develops plant-based skincare and cosmetics formulated and manufactured in France, which are distributed in more than 150 countries through approximately 20,000 points of sale.
