Clearpay, the buy now pay later provider, has released its most popular consumer shopping trends following this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, reporting a year-on-year increase of orders in sectors including fashion and beauty.

While the travel and events category was the overall winner on Cyber Monday (a 250% increase), Black Friday belonged to homeware, beauty and fashion, with year-on-year orders rising by 170%, 61% and 35% respectively, indicating the nation aims to glam up both inside and out.

Data from Clearpay revealed that shoppers largely embraced street style, with top purchases including customised trainers, fashion leggings and statement bags.

In the beauty category, items such as brush sets, foundations, hair serums and lipsticks were the biggest sellers, with hopeful Brits turning to glamour in planning festive get-togethers.

Ahead of Christmas 2021, Gen X'ers (41-56 year olds) made up 13% more of Clearpay's customer base for Black Friday, compared to the same period in 2020, showcasing BNPL's expansion beyond the typical Gen Z and millennial consumers.

Rich Bayer, Clearpay’s UK Country Manager, added: “As we celebrate another Christmas in the pandemic, consumers shopping during Black Friday and Cyber Monday have shown that they are eager to gain a sense of normalcy and spend on gifts for themselves and loved ones.”
