COSRX issues warning over rise in counterfeit products on social media
Korean skincare brand COSRX has issued a warning to consumers about the rise of counterfeit products being sold through unofficial channels.
In the era of 'dupes', the brand emphasised that fake products are on the rise, as shoppers seek to save money on trending beauty products.
To address this, COSRX has issued a warning about counterfeit goods to its audience on social media. This includes a video by influencer Blake Healey explaining the differences between a real and fake product after being scammed on TikTok Shop.
COSRX highlights that counterfeit goods can be hard to differentiate, as they often use the same logo and Korean copy, to make them look authentic.
The packaging can look extremely real, but the brand said that there are small changes, often in the text, which can identify products as being fake.
In addition, the issue is being exacerbated by unofficial channels, such as Amazon re-sellers, whose positive reviews and Prime stickers often confuse consumers.
The brand also highlights that TikTok Shop is not an authorised seller of COSRX, and no individual on the app is approved to sell the brand via the platform.
Abraham Kayrouz, a representative for COSRX UK, said: "Recently, there are fake products finding a presence on online channels, that offer cheaper pricing.
"TikTok is a crucial tool for reaching our target customers in this fast-paced world. As time goes by, consumers prefer not to spend too much time on collecting information, they prefer an efficient and instant way to acquire information.
"TikTok has emerged as a helpful tool that allows us to reach our target customers and provide them with a concise yet comprehensive understanding of our products and services. It has played a significant role in amplifying the growth of COSRX and boosting our sales by increasing the views of hashtag.
"However, even before the boom in social media popularity, we already had our relationships with all of the established UK beauty retailers, so this has not changed, and we will continue to prioritise these channels for CORSX, and encourage shoppers to purchase from these partners only."
