Debenhams has appointed JD Sports’ Multichannel Director Daniel Finley as its new Chief Executive Officer.

The British department store retailer collapsed into liquidation in 2020 after failing to secure a last minute rescue sale with sportswear retailer JD Sports. In January 2021, Boohoo Group announced it had acquire Debenhams, with the deal resulting in the closure of all its stores.

Finley announced the news on LinkedIn, commenting: "After an incredible decade as Group Multi Channel Director at JD Sports Fashion plc, I decided it was time to take up a new challenge.

"Today, I am excited to have started my new role as Chief Executive of Debenhams, following its acquisition last year by Boohoo Group. I am delighted to take charge of a great British heritage brand and looking forward to building on the progress that the team have made since its acquisition."

In addition to JD Sports, Finley has previously worked at The Peacock Group as Group Business Development Director, and Javelin Group as an Associate Director. His previous roles have seen him focus on defining multi-channel retail strategies and delivering e-commerce improvement projects.
