Here are some of this week’s news highlights handpicked by team.

Boots reveals top trends and beauty bestsellers of 2023

Who doesn't love a beauty trend? This week Boots revealed its bestselling beauty products of 2023, with smart skincare and advanced hair health among the top trends of the year.

Interestingly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the Future Review range became the fastest-selling No7 launch ever, with one product from the collection selling every two seconds on launch day and over half a million transactions in the first four weeks.

Chanel, Dior and more form ‘Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics’

When Chanel stamps its mark on something, followed by beauty industry leaders Dior, Estée Lauder and more, it's certainly something that captures the attention of the beauty industry.

15 cosmetics makers have formed a consortium titled ‘The Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics’ to enhance the beauty industry's traceability. Its creation was inspired by recent health, climactic and geopolitical events, which caused supply-chain disruptions. What’s more, regulations in Paris, and globally, are becoming stricter.

Lush to reveal secrets of the bath bomb in BBC2's Inside The Factory

I've got a soft spot for Lush since I hail from Dorset and was brought up in Poole. It was always a source of local pride that a trailblazing business in the field of cruelty-free cosmetics (and the bath bomb in particular) should hail from the town.

It's lovely that the business is still based there and that its factory is the subject of this week's Inside The Factory episode on Sunday 28 January, where presenter Gregg Wallace follows the production process of its Intergalactic bath bomb.

Wallace learns all about the ingredients, the people who make the bombs and the benefits of popping one into your bath. It'll make you want to take a bath, and even pay a visit to Poole, which is also famous for its beautiful beaches and for being the home of luxury yacht maker Sunseeker. It's a town that has its priorities straight.

RoC Skincare

Bridgepoint confirms acquisition of RoC Skincare

Yet another beauty brand has been snapped up this month - this week, it was RoC Skincare. The business is being acquired by London-based investment firm Bridgepoint, with hopes to further support the brand's growth across Europe and develop its product offer.

The transaction is expected to close in February 2024. It follows a number of recent skincare brand acquisitions, including Dr Barbara Sturm by Puig and Dr Dennis Gross by Shiseido earlier this month.
