Emma Simpson-Scott takes the helm at Space NK as Andy Lightfoot exits
Space NK CEO Andy Lightfoot is stepping down from his role at the premium beauty retailer and will be succeeded by current Chief Marketing Officer Emma Simpson-Scott from 13 September.
Lightfoot joined Space NK as Global Digital Director in 2016 before becoming Chief Executive in April 2019. During his tenure, he oversaw a period of growth and transformation for the business, including its acquisition by Ulta Beauty last year.
Under Lightfoot, Space NK expanded and refreshed its store estate, introducing new concepts including its Oxford Street flagship, which opened last year.
The retailer also added a number of new and exclusive brands to its portfolio, including Prequel, Victoria Beckham Beauty and JVN. Earlier this month, Space NK announced that Touchland will launch online and in-store from 29 September.
“We wish Andy Lightfoot all the best in his next chapter and gratitude for his ten years of service and all that he has done for Space NK, including joining forces with Ulta Beauty.” said Kecia Steelman, President & Chief Executive Officer.
“Under his leadership, Space NK has achieved significant growth, strengthened its position as a market-leading beauty retailer, and successfully transitioned into the Ulta Beauty family. His legacy will be felt for many years to come.”
Simpson-Scott takes over as CEO following seven and a half years as Chief Marketing Officer. She has been with Space NK for a decade and brings more than 20 years of experience spanning luxury retail, brand marketing and customer experience.
Steelman described her as a highly-respected retail leader who brings “deep customer insight, retail expertise and a passion for building exceptional teams".
"I am delighted to congratulate Emma on her appointment to chief executive officer and look forward to our continued work together as she leads Space NK into the next chapter of growth," she continued.
Simpson-Scott added: It’s an honour to be appointed CEO of Space NK at such an exciting moment for the business. Having been part of the leadership team for over 10 years, I’ve seen first-hand the passion, expertise and entrepreneurial spirit of our teams, which has been instrumental in evolving Space NK into the business it is today.
"As we look to the future, I’m excited by the opportunities ahead. Space NK has built exceptional relationships with some of the world’s most innovative and in-demand beauty brands. Together with our exceptionally talented teams and brand partners, I look forward to driving continued innovation and growth and creating even more inspiring beauty experiences for our customers.”
Space NK has also announced further changes to its senior leadership team.
Hannah Quy joins the business this month as Chief Financial Officer, overseeing finance, property and distribution. Tiff Ruis joins from Ulta Beauty as Senior Vice President of Retail and Ecommerce.
“These appointments reinforce Space NK’s commitment to accelerating growth, investing in its people and maintaining its position as the leading curator of luxury beauty in the UK and Ireland,” the company said.
The leadership changes follow the departure of Chief Commercial Officer Margaret Mitchell earlier this year after nearly a decade with the business.
Mitchell had held the role of Chief Commercial Officer since June 2022, having previously served as Chief Merchandising Officer from April 2019. She has since joined Kiko Milano as Executive Vice President for North and Central Europe and Global Commercial Strategy.
