Gallinée has partnered with beauty tech specialist Sequential Skin to create an at-home test kit allowing users to determine their skin’s microbiome health and the diversity of the bacteria present on the skin.

Gallinée Skin Health Testing Kits measure microbiome diversity, along with skin traits and each person’s environment to provide a detailed analysis of skin health, and a Sequential Skin Age – in other words, the skin’s biological age. They are then offered precise skincare recommendations based on their specific needs.

The skin’s microbiome, which determines skin health, is evaluated with four key bacteria at the forefront of the overall twenty that are tested by the kit. These are: Lactobacillus Acidophilus (L. acidophilus); Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis); Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus); Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes).

The diversity and ratio of each of these bacteria are assessed to provide a Skin Microbiome Diversity Index score. A score of less than 0.39 is considered low, a score between 0.40-0.64 is moderate, and above 0.65 is considered high – the higher the score, the higher the diversity, meaning the healthier the skin’s microbiome.

Each tester’s personalised test report contains detailed advice on how to boost microbiome diversity, with key ingredients to look out for and which ones to avoid. Lifestyle guidance and simple swaps are also included, to help balance the skin factors: hydration, sensitivity response, firmness, sun protection and anti-oxidant capacity.

“We decided to launch Sequential’s novel skin microbiome tests through Gallinée in the UK and France, given their innovative microbiome products and well-informed customers. Given that Gallinée was an early pioneer in the microbiome consumer product space, whilst Sequential was the early pioneer of at-home skin microbiome testing kits, it was a natural match,” said Oliver Worsley, CEO & Co-Founder of Sequential.

The tests are delivered in the post and can be carried out in three simple steps, taking 10 seconds. The patch should be applied to the skin for 10 seconds, placed in the test-tube provided and sent back to the lab in a pre-paid envelope.

They are available on the Gallinée website or a limited period for £50, after which the price will increase to £80 with £50 of the price redeemable the next Gallinée purchase.
