Glossier CEO Kyle Leahy to exit after a period of 'immense transformation'
Glossier's CEO, Kyle Leahy, who succeeded founder Emily Weiss as CEO in 2022, is set to step down at the end of 2025, marking the end of a three-year tenure that saw the brand navigate a pivotal phase of transformation.
Leahy, who joined the company as its first Chief Commercial Officer in 2021 before stepping into the role of CEO a year later, will remain on the company’s board through the transition. Weiss will continue in her role as Executive Chairwoman but has confirmed she will not return as CEO.
Announcing her departure, Leahy said: "Today I shared the bittersweet news with our team that I will be moving on as CEO of Glossier, Inc. at the end of the year.
"After nearly 4 years stewarding the brand through a period of immense transformation defined by global scale and brand strength, Glossier is larger and more profitable than ever before. With that foundation in place, the Board and I believe this is the right moment to bring in the next CEO to lead a new phase of growth."
Her tenure marked a strategic shift from Glossier’s once-pure direct-to-consumer model toward a more traditional retail expansion. A key milestone was the brand’s long-anticipated launch into Sephora in February 2023 - a move that catalysed Glossier’s presence across new markets including the UK, Middle East, Mexico, and, this month, France.
During Leahy’s time at the helm, Glossier also doubled down on its growing fragrance category. Under her leadership, fragrance sales have grown to exceed $100 million (£73 million), making it the brand’s largest category. The company has leaned into this momentum with launches such as You Doux and You Rêve, and more recently, a body care and mist line inspired by the brand’s Sandstone and Orange Blossom Neroli scents.
In a statement, Founder Emily Weiss praised Leahy’s "leadership and stewardship" through a period that required rethinking the brand’s business model.
Kirsten Green, Founder of Forerunner Ventures and an investor in Glossier, also commended Leahy’s impact: "Thanks to her leadership, Glossier is stronger, more resonant, and more ambitious than ever."
