How Beauty of Joseon is making K-beauty mainstream in UK
K-beauty has long captured the imagination of beauty insiders - known for its innovative ingredients, gentle formulations, and trend-setting textures. But now, one of its cult brands, Beauty of Joseon, is taking steps to break out of niche circles and into the British mainstream.
Beauty of Joseon has announced globally renowned DJ Peggy Gou as its new ambassador and is marking the moment with a high-visibility London campaign set to light up iconic locations across the capital from 11 August.
The four-week out-of-home campaign will feature bold creative across Leicester Square, Oxford Circus, Carnaby, Covent Garden and more. This is a major move that positions the once-underground Korean brand squarely in front of UK shoppers on the high street.
The partnership between Gou and Beauty of Joseon is far more than just celebrity endorsement. It’s a deliberate cultural moment: a modern Korean brand tapping a global Korean icon, both known for bridging East and West in their respective worlds.
Founded in 2019 by Sumin Lee, Beauty of Joseon reimagines skincare traditions from Korea’s Joseon Dynasty using modern science. Its viral products like the Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF and Glow Serum: Propolis + Niacinamide have earned masses of fans for their visible results. Pairing this skincare credibility with Gou’s high-fashion profile, the brand is signalling a shift from cult cool to a global lifestyle brand.
This comes as K-beauty's presence on the British high street is rapidly growing and showing no signs of slowing down.. The surge in popularity coincides with growing interest on social media platforms like TikTok, where brands such as Beauty of Joseon, Haru Haru, Skin1004 and Anua are gaining widespread attention.
Retailers are taking note. Pureseoul is aiming for 30 UK stores by the end of 2026, while Skin Cupid recently signed a 10-year lease on a flagship store in central London. Boots, Sephora UK and Cult Beauty have also expanded their K-beauty offerings.
Beauty of Joseon’s London campaign signals a wider shift. Korean beauty is no longer just an internet trend; it’s becoming a significant force in British skincare retail. With Peggy Gou as its face, Beauty of Joseon is turning visibility into viability, one Tube station at a time.
