How Pangaia is entering the world of cosmetics with Hackney's Big.beauty
Pangaia, renowned for its planet-conscious loungewear, opened the doors to its London flagship earlier this year. But what if shoppers are after more than just guilt-free fashion and are also scouting for zero-waste beauty?
This December, sustainable beauty and wellness boutique Big.beauty is bringing its Hackney-based cosmetics line-up to the heart of Carnaby Street for an exclusive Christmas pop-up at the Pangaia flagship store.
Pangaia Collective told TheIndustry.beauty all about its foray into beauty: "We met Big.beauty founders Lisa and Marijke at their summer party—it was one of those moments where stars just aligned. Big.beauty’s commitment to platforming earth-positive and waste-free innovation feels so complementary to what we stand for at Pangaia. It was a natural partnership, and we’re excited to bring their zero-waste beauty to Carnaby Street this December."
The pop-up, which will be open from 12-14 December, invites shoppers to explore the beauty retailer's selection of zero-waste beauty and wellness products that are the answer to "guilt-free festive gifting".
Pangaia’s mission is to bring problem-solving innovations to the world through premium lifestyle products and experiences, so who better to partner with than Big.beauty with its zero-waste cosmetics and skincare offering?
"We love to create surprising, meaningful, full-circle experiences for our community. Adding beauty to the mix felt like the perfect way to compliment our products this festive season. Our community is always excited to discover new products, and with beauty being such a personal and thoughtful gift, we hope this curated selection would resonate," added Pangaia.
Big.beauty founders Lisa Targett Bolding and Marijke Adderley will be on hand for personalised skin consultations. During their visit, shoppers can discover limited-edition, high-performance products rarely available outside the retailer's Hackney boutique.
The curation includes:
- LESSE: NYC-based natural skincare essentials (exclusive to Big.)
- ACTIVIST: LA Erewhon’s favourite Manuka honey skincare and supplement range from New Zealand (exclusive to Big.)
- Subtle Bodies: Australian-crafted incense sticks (exclusive to Big.)
- Vyrao: East London-based pioneers of mood-enhancing scents
- AKT: Award-winning natural deodorant balms from the West End
- MIRROR WATER: Community-centred nourishing bodycare essentials
- Tenth Muse: Refillable solid perfume balms from London
Lisa Targett Bolding, Co-founder of Big.beauty, said: "With 95% of cosmetic packaging getting thrown away, and only 9% being recycled - packaging is one of the biggest sustainability challenges facing the beauty industry. We’re here to change that and provide a platform for the pioneer brands designing waste out of the system.
"Partnering with Pangaia was a no-brainer, as innovators around materiality and waste they are the perfect space for us to showcase the best of Big’s collection this festive season."
During the three-day pop-up, drinks will be poured, DJs will hit the decks, and there will also be a facial massage workshop led by Big.beauty’s resident facialist, Rebecca Pearson.
When asked if Pangaia would ever consider creating its very own beauty line, a spokesperson said: "Pangaia was born from science and purpose, each solving an environmental problem of the industry and we are always exploring how we can innovate and challenge industries, so never say never!"
The company opened the doors to its flagship on Carnaby Street earlier this year. The brand told TheIndustry.beauty: "The opening of our first London standalone store has been an exciting milestone for us. It’s not just a retail space—it’s a hub where our community can immerse themselves in the world of Pangaia.
"As for expansion, we’re always looking for ways to reach more people in meaningful ways. Our Carnaby Street store has been a great test, and we’re excited to see where this journey takes us next."
