In Depth: Everything you need to know about Prada's new makeup and skincare lines
Prada has strengthened its beauty offer with the launch of new makeup and skincare lines, both centred around the concept of "rethinking beauty".
To mark its launch, TheIndustry.beauty has taken an in depth look at the new beauty range, its products and the innovation behind it.
From refillable packaging to intentional colour composites and skin-fusing formulas, the new range creates a beauty experience symbolic of the codes that are undeniably Prada: "luxury and functionality".
The skincare and makeup collections "reconcile minimalism and maximalism; sophistication and playfulness; simplicity and versatility, drawing from both heritage and technology for formulas and packaging that bring luxury into harmonious conversation".
Skincare
"Prada rethinks skincare through the lens of adaptation as the new performance."
The new skincare range is powered by Prada's Adapto.gn Smart Technology to improve the skin's ability to renew, regenerate, and reinforce itself.
The Augmented Skin Day & Night Cream (£275) helps renew the top layer of the skin and reinforce its protective barrier function.
The Augmented Skin The Serum (£315) recalibrates skin’s natural functions, with hyaluronic acid to refine skin texture and squalane to even skin tone.
The Augmented Skin The Cleanser & Make-Up Remover (£85) is a cream-to-foam cleanser featuring a potent blend of amino acids, glycerin and lactobacillus ferment to purify skin texture while optimising suppleness and radiance.
Makeup
"An invitation to explore and experiment, Prada Colour sees self-reinvention as the ultimate self-expression."
Colour cosmetics
The colour cosmetics range uses "avant-garde" technologies to provide hyper-flexible, blendable, breathable yet durable wear with over-time care.
The Monochrome Hyper Matte Durable Weightless Lipcolour (£29.50) is available in 13 shades and offers one-stroke payoff with up to 12-hour wear.
The Monochrome Soft Matte Buildable Weightless Lipcolour (£37) also boasts 13 shades with adjustable, buildable coverage.
The Prada Balm Lip-Optimizing Care (£37) features a universal Prada-Green shade with a natural matte finish. It works to enhance the natural look of the lips with bifidus extract and jojoba oil to provide moisturisation.
The Dimensions Durable Multi-Effect Eyeshadow (£65) reconstructs iconic prints from the brand’s archive to showcase six fashion-curated eyeshadow palettes. Each palette features three neutrals and one eccentric accent in four finishes, including satin, soft matte, hyper matte and meta foil.
Foundation
The Prada Reveal Skin Optimizing Foundation (£49) enhances the skin in three dimensions – tone, luminosity and texture – to reveal soft-filtered skin in-real-life.
It is available in 33 "flexible" shades, with buildable coverage to provide customisable wear across a spectrum of skin tones and undertones.
Using advanced IRL-micro-filter technology, the product also includes ingredients such as pure vitamin E, 100% active niacinamide and lactobacillus extract complex to improve skin tone, lock in moisture and refine skin texture.
Tools
Described as "artistry-engineered essential, multi-use tools", the brand's new hand-crafted makeup brushes are made from advanced synthetic fibres to provide high- performance makeup application.
The nine brushes include a Powder Diffusing Brush, Foundation Optimizing Brush, Eye Blending Brush, Brow & Eyeliner Brush and Lip Filling Brush, among others. The collection also features a Foundation Diffusing Sponge.
Beauty technology
Prada’s exclusive beauty-tech services integrate human expertise with technological innovation to conduct advanced makeup and skincare analysis.
The Skin Decoder
Developed in collaboration with L’Oréal Research & Innovation, the Skin Decoder utilises advanced algorithms powered by Artificial Intelligence, incorporating convolutional neural networks machine learning and visualisations to assess numerous skin parameters.
The diagnosis explores the current nature of the skin and offers tech-based insights to advise on how to optimise the skin through Prada’s adaptation-driven formulations.
The Colour Explorer
A virtual makeup try-on service featuring the Prada's colour catalogue in full, the Colour Explorer offers enhanced customisation options for a reimagined expression of the brand's eye and lip colours.
Brand ambassadors
To communicate a vision that "bridges the IRL and URL dimensions", Prada has appointed two official brand talents to create an "enriching creative dialogue, exploring the apex of real and digital life as it relates to Skin and Colour".
London-based makeup artist Lynsey Alexander (pictured left) has been named as Global Creative Makeup Artist, whilst Paris-based 3D artist Ines Alpha (pictured right) has been appointed as Global Creative E-Makeup Artist.
Prada believes the two makeup artists play an "integral part of colour development, using their vision and expertise to reinforce brand uniqueness".
