Despite non-essential retail being closed, Christmas lights continue to shine bright down Oxford Street with few shoppers continuing to purchase essential items, making use of click and collect services, and visiting the nearby area. went to take a look at how London's iconic shopping district today compares with last week.

Most stores opted to close their doors completely, taking the opportunity to conduct deep cleans, window refreshes, or use their windows to promote online offers.

Some retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Marks & Spencer, The Body Shop and Next continued to trade through doorway click and collect services.

Zara appeared to take the most store precautions, opting to completely board up the doorway of one of its stores down Oxford Street.

Last week, independent retailers called for the Government to intervene over the types of "non-essential" retail still taking place during Lockdown 2.

British Independent Retailers Association believes that mixed retailers, those that sell both essential and non-essential items, have been given an unfair advantage for at least a month.
