Total like-for-like fashion sales rose 34.88% in the week ending 24 October, 2021, compared to the same week in 2020, while in-store fashion sales soared by 57.95% from a very poor base of -36.72 during the same week last year, showing confidence in physical shopping is bouncing back.

It was the 31st consecutive week of positive total like-for-like sales for fashion, and the highest seen since mid-July 2021, according to the latest data from BDO's High Street Sales Tracker.

Total like-for-like sales increased 22.1% in the week, while total in-store like-for-like sales jumped 36.42% and overall online sales rose 14.62% year-on-year, compared to an already strong base of +85.13% last year.

Total footfall increased by 27.1% in the week compared to the corresponding week last year, with the high street continuing to lead footfall recovery with an increase of 39.3%, followed by shopping centres up 21% and retail parks up 7.3%.

Lifestyle total like-for-like sales increased by 10.17% in the week, from a positive base of +7.93% for the same week last year, while homeware total like-for-like sales increased by 2.8% from a strong base of +28.27% for the same week last year.

Homeware actually witnessed a rebound following a downturn over the last month, potentially buoyed by early Christmas shopping as suggested by some reports
