it seems obvious now, that social media can make clothes sell. But back when Eva Chen, American magazine editor turned Instagram ambassador, started posting daily pictures of her stylishly clad feet up in the back of a cab on the way to work, a piece of fruit balanced atop an expertly coordinated, equally covetable bag, it felt fresh. The much-imitated #evachenpose was delectable eye candy, a fashionista’s must-follow.
Even so, when Eva quit her role as editor of US shopping magazine Lucky in 2015, starting work a few months later at the social media company that helped make her famous, it seemed a watershed moment: why would you leave such a glamorous job for the nerdy world of tech?
