K-beauty in 2026: Expert predictions on AI, barrier care and sensorial skincare
Western interest in Korean skincare has surged in recent years, and that enthusiasm is expected to continue into 2026 as consumers increasingly seek science-backed, sensorial, and results-driven routines.
That's according to K-beauty expert and Skin Cupid CEO and founder, Melody Yuan, who outlines her forecast for the year ahead, highlighting the innovations, ingredients, and philosophies set to shape the industry in 2026.
"Having already set the global stage for skincare, K-beauty continues to set the benchmark for innovation. UK consumers are becoming more ingredient-savvy, gravitating towards the gentle formulations and advanced technology that Korea is celebrated for," said Yuan.
Trend predictions
AI-driven skin personalisation
With tech-integrated beauty on the rise, 2026 is set to bring personalised skincare routines to UK consumers. Yuan predicts a surge in advanced diagnostic tools, app-linked regimens, and AI-generated custom formulations delivering real-time adaptiveness to lifestyle and environmental factors.
Barrier-first skincare
As barrier-repair skincare gains momentum worldwide, K-beauty is set to elevate it further with next-generation strengthening complexes. Ultra-gentle, microbiome-supporting formulas - especially those enriched with fermented ingredients, ceramides, and postbiotic blends - are expected to become essential components of daily routines. However, Yuan suggests that consumers "will need to be savvy", understanding how to protect and restore their skin barrier without overdoing it.
Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA)
PLLA, commonly used in injectable fillers and other dermatology treatments, is expected to appear in more over-the-counter cosmetic products in the near future. While a PLLA-infused cream won’t deliver the same dramatic results as a filler, it can still exfoliate and hydrate the skin for a smoother appearance while supporting elasticity - leading Yuan to predict that this trend will continue.
Hybrid-skincare products
This year has seen a surge in the “glass skin” aesthetic, driven by hybrid-skincare products. By blending skincare and makeup, this approach delivers wearable, multi-layered radiance - offering instant luminosity while supporting long-term skin health. The trend is expected to expand even further in the coming year.
Traditional ingredients
Yuan also predicts that 2026 will bring a "major surge" in modernised hanbang (traditional Korean herbal medicine) formulas. "We’ll be looking at a rise in the use of ginseng, mugwort, and bamboo sap, paired with peptides and encapsulation technologies to enhance stability and delivery," she said.
Sensorial skincare
With the rise of sensory skincare on TikTok, K-beauty brands are poised to introduce more indulgent textures, uplifting aromas, and mood-enhancing formulations. Sensorial skincare adds a new dimension to the K-beauty market and is expected to evolve even further in the year ahead.
