Kao acquires Bondi Sands in bid to become leader in skin protection
Japanese beauty group Kao has signed an agreement to acquire Bondi Sands as it looks to become a "global leader" in the skin protection category.
The deal, which is subject to regulatory review and approval, includes the acquisition of Bondi Sands Australia Pty and related Bondi Sands companies.
Founded in 2012, Bondi Sands is an Australian business that specialises in self tanning, suncare, skincare and bodycare. Its products are available in over 32 countries, including the UK.
The acquisition of Bondi Sands will allow Kao to further focus on the skin protection category to "establish a firm position globally in the suncream and self tanning markets".
Karen Frank, President of Consumer Care Business Americas and EMEA at Kao, said: "Quality, innovation, environmental responsibility, accessibility and community are at the forefront of everything Bondi Sands does, ideally aligning it to our own brand values and corporate philosophy.

Using its UV care technologies in the Japanese market and self tanning technologies in the US market, Kao will also expand Bondi Sands' global business portfolio and further accelerate its business growth.
Shaun Wilson, Co-Founder and CEO of Bondi Sands, said: "The integration of Kao’s renowned scientific and technological resources into our operations is an unparalleled opportunity that will significantly contribute to the exponential growth of our brand, empowering us to further expand our product offerings and advance our research and development initiatives.
"With this partnership, we can now confidently explore untapped markets, reach more customers around the world and continue to fulfil our company mission."
