London’s Oxford Street will go traffic-free on Sunday 21 September, transforming into a pedestrian-only space filled with engaging visitor experiences - offering a first glimpse of its potential future as a fully pedestrianised destination.

Running from 12pm to 8pm, the event will stretch from Orchard Street to Oxford Circus and feature a series of themed zones celebrating fashion, beauty, sport, music, food, heritage, and more.

City Hall is working closely with Oxford Street’s shops and venues to bring the event to life, with exclusive offers, brand activations, and event partners to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Confirmed partners so far include Major League Baseball, Holland & Barrett - which will curate a dedicated wellness zone - and charity Choose Love, which will host a pop-up installation.

"I’m excited to announce our landmark ‘This is Oxford Street’ event, which will take place in September and offer Londoners, visitors, and businesses a glimpse of what the nation’s high street could look like in the future," said Mayor Sadiq Khan.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to see Oxford Street in a whole new light, traffic-free, full of music, great food, pop-ups and entertainment for everyone.

"As Mayor, I’m determined to unlock Oxford Street’s true potential and deliver a world-class, accessible, clean, avenue. So add the date to your diary, it’s going to be a fantastic day out as we reimagine the West End for everyone."

The upcoming event coincides with the Mayor’s push to pedestrianise Oxford Street and boost regeneration efforts, backed by "overwhelming" support from the public and local businesses.

In fact, nearly seven in 10 people previously expressed approval for the proposed regeneration plans, with two-thirds specifically endorsing the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street.

The plans include pedestrianising Oxford Street’s main shopping thoroughfare to improve the visitor experience, enabling new leisure offerings like al fresco dining and outdoor events.

Following support from the London Assembly in July 2025, the Mayor is working with Government to make the necessary legislation for the MDC to be established by 1 January 2026.
