Did you know Londoners have some of the worst skin in the UK? A new study, conducted by Lookfantastic, has revealed the UK cities that are the worst for the skin.

In a time when we scrutinise every line or bump on our skin, there has been a rising obsession with maintaining a youthful appearance. Women, on average, dedicate four hours a day to their beauty routines. No wonder some as young as 18 are opting for anti-ageing procedures like Botox and fillers.

In light of this, Lookfantastic analysed metrics such as UV index, sunlight exposure and alcohol consumption to find out which cities are the best for youthful skin, for those looking to slow down the signs of ageing naturally.

For example, in Bournemouth, high sunlight exposure is speeding up the ageing process. Bournemouth experiences 1,648.2 sunlight hours annually, the second highest in the UK behind Brighton. Therefore, Bournemouth is the city where ageing happens the fastest.

For different reasons, such as city stress, London is a particularly bad city for skin based on its overall score of 63.6. The capital has a high noise pollution score of 55.08, causing many residents may struggle to achieve quality, uninterrupted sleep. This, coupled with 16% of the population engaging in binge drinking, results in the skin being negatively impacted by the London lifestyle.

However, if you’re a Stoke-on-Trent native, there’s no need to worry. Lookfantastic revealed this UK’s best city for ageing thanks to its favourable environmental conditions, with a score of 84.2. Thanks to its notoriously poor weather, Glasgow has the lowest annual sunlight hours making it the second-best.
