L'Oréal and Dyson are the latest companies to sue for refunds of tariffs paid under US President Trump's emergency trade measures.

US skincare and fragrance company Sol de Janeiro also raised a complaint with the administration earlier this week.

Over 1,400 importers have already filed lawsuits, with more expected, yet they still represent only a small portion of the companies that may be eligible for refunds, according to Reuters.

Up to $175 billion (£129 billion) in US tariff collections are subject to potential refunds, the publication said. However, the journey to recovering those funds is unlikely to be easy and could take months or even years, as it will have to be worked out in a lower court.

L'Oréal did not disclose how much it is seeking in refunds.

The lawsuits were filed just days after the US Supreme Court ruled that Trump had overstepped his authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) - a sanctions law - to impose tariffs on imported goods.

On Monday, Downing Street said “nothing is off the table” in the UK’s response to US President Donald Trump’s threats that he will impose 15% global tariffs.

No. 10 left open the possibility that the UK could impose reciprocal trade levies on American goods and services, but insisted it was focused on “constructive engagement” with the Trump administration, as a trade war would harm businesses.
