L’Oréal confirms acquisition of Medik8
Following rumours of a potential deal, L’Oréal has acquired British skincare brand Medik8 from London-based private equity firm Inflexion.
The premium brand will join forces with L’Oréal’s LUXE Division after signing an agreement that will see its founder, management and private equity partner, Inflexion, remain involved in the running of the business.
Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal LUXE, said: "We are delighted to welcome Medik8 to the L’Oréal family. As a premium skincare range, with high levels of proven efficacy at an accessible price point, Medik8 perfectly complements our existing skincare portfolio.
"We share a strong belief in Medik8's global potential and are excited to embark on this journey together to build a powerful and impactful brand presence worldwide."
The acquisition marks the latest in a series of strategic skincare deals by L’Oréal under CEO Nicolas Hieronimus. In 2023, the US-based company acquired Aesop $2.5 billion, followed by the addition of Korean skincare label Dr.G in December.
It also signals "a new chapter of growth" for Medik8, which currently operates a multi-channel model across Europe, Australia and with a growing presence in the US.
Simon Coble, CEO of Medik8, said: "This is an exciting day for our brand. With the support of Inflexion, we’ve shown Medik8 to be a formidable force, powered by high-quality, clinically proven results without compromise.
"We now enter our next phase of growth, with L’Oréal’s support, enabling us to further strengthen our innovation capabilities and reach even more customers worldwide."
Founded in 2009, Medik8 attempts to "revolutionise" skincare with a scientific approach to age-defying solutions.
Driven by a passion for innovation and efficacy, the UK-based brand combines "cutting-edge research with high-quality ingredients" to address a wide range of skin concerns.
From potent vitamin C serums to retinol-infused treatments, Medik8's extensive product range is formulated to deliver visible results while prioritising skin health and sustainability.
It was acquired by Inflexion in 2021, which has since played a key role in driving the company's expansion in US market.
Elliot Isaacs, founder of Medik8, said: "Medik8 was born to prove that skincare can deliver results without compromise – rooted in science, obsessed with customer experience, and driven by sustainability.
"I’m delighted that Medik8 has now found its long-term home at L’Oréal – a partner that fundamentally embraces our vision and gives us the platform to deliver it on a truly global scale."
The transaction is expected to be completed in the next few months after regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
