L’Oréal has made a minority investment into micro-printing startup Prinker Korea Inc.

Established in 2015, Prinker Korea is the inventor and manufacturer of the "world's first" digital temporary tattoo device.

The two companies recently developed the L’Oréal Brow Magic applicator, which allows users to achieve a personalised eyebrow look based on their natural brow and facial features.

Expected to launch in 2023, the device uses AR technology and AI-algorithms to scan the user’s face and makes recommendations for microblading, micro-shading or filler effects. The look can then be removed with standard makeup remover.

Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation & Technology at L'Oréal, said: “At L’Oréal, our researchers are partnering with high end technology start-ups to create the future of beauty. Together, by combining our expertises, we develop personalised consumer experiences.

"Through this strategic investment, we can fulfil our deep commitment to bringing breakthrough beauty technologies that truly  empower boundless personalisation and self-expression into the hands of every person.”

Luke Yun, Co-Founder & CEO of Prinker Korea Inc., said: “We are thrilled to enter this new phase of partnership with L’Oréal, who aligns with our mission of empowering consumers with versatile and customisable tech to express themselves.

"Their investment will enable us to create innovations that will have the best solutions for people worldwide, and we are elated to work together to reach this goal."

The investment was made through L’Oréal’s corporate venture fund 'BOLD Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development'.
