L’Oréal is nearing a €1 billion deal to acquire British skincare brand Medik8, in a strategic move to strengthen its portfolio of premium beauty brands.

A deal is close to being signed and is expected to be announced in the coming days, according to The Financial Times.

The acquisition would mark the latest in a series of strategic skincare deals by L’Oréal under CEO Nicolas Hieronimus. In 2023, the US-based company acquired Aesop $2.5 billion, followed by the addition of Korean label Dr.G in December 2024.

It would also represent another strategic expansion for L’Oréal across its growing dermocosmetics category, which already includes SkinCeuticals, CeraVe, and La Roche-Posay.

Founded in 2009, Medik8 attempts to "revolutionise" skincare with a scientific approach to age-defying solutions.

Driven by a passion for innovation and efficacy, the UK-based brand combines "cutting-edge research with high-quality ingredients" to address a wide range of skin concerns.

From potent vitamin C serums to retinol-infused treatments, its products are formulated to deliver visible results while prioritising skin health and sustainability, empowering individuals to achieve their best complexion.

Medik8 was acquired in 2021 by London-based private equity firm Inflexion, which has since played a key role in driving the company's expansion in US market.

The deal would represent the latest milestone in the industry’s wave of big beauty acquisitions, coming on the heels of Hailey Bieber’s sale of Rhode to E.l.f. Beauty for $1 billion last month.

As part of the deal, Bieber has stepped into an expanded role as Chief Creative Officer and Head of Innovation, while also acting as a strategic advisor to the E.l.f. Beauty group.
