Lush has suspended supplies to its 48 stores in Russia but told reporters it is unable to close them as they are controlled by a Russian citizen.

The company said its Russian and Ukrainian businesses are associate companies, both 65% owned by a Russian citizen who has built the business over 20 years.

Lush added that it employs over 600 staff between its Russian and Ukrainian stores and all staff share the brands values of environmental protection, animal rights, social justice and peace.

Lush announced on 25 February that it had closed its Ukraine stores. The company confirmed it is now in the process of acquiring shares of the Lush Ukraine stores that it currently does not own "in order to secure the business".

The company stated that it was in daily communication with its Russian and Ukrainian colleagues and was using its Charity Pot funds and contacts on the ground in Ukraine to provide food, shelter and support.

The company stated: "With the Ukrainian shops obviously closed and worldwide sanctions taking effect in Russia the business prospects are bleak, but do not pose a material risk to the Group.

"Our overarching goal is to stand with Ukraine and with all people of peace in the region. Our short-term goal is to provide a relief fund to help our Ukrainian colleagues in the current situation. We stand for peace and join the global community calling for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of all lives."
