Skincare and fragrance brand Malin + Goetz has filed for administration in the UK, leading to the closure of its stores and a pause in UK online sales.

The move is set to lead to redundancies for employees across the brand's UK store estate.

A spokesperson for Malin+Goetz told TheIndustry.beauty: "Following an extensive review of the business and after exhausting all viable alternatives, we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to put our UK business into administration, resulting in the closure of all UK stores that we operate and our head office.

"We recognise the impact this will have on our colleagues and customers, and the loss of jobs is deeply regrettable, but unavoidable under the circumstances."

The administration affects seven London locations where the business operates, including stores in Seven Dials, Soho, Spitalfields, Islington, Canary Wharf, Battersea Power Station and Borough Yards.

Malin + Goetz also sells directly to consumers via its website and through select third-party retailers such as Liberty, John Lewis and Space NK.

The brand said its UK e-commerce platform will continue to serve UK customers, with a "short maintenance period" as technical operations transition to its US teams.

UK customers can still purchase products through third-party retailers, now supported through a new partnership with distributor Discovered Brands.

"This structural change will allow the business to focus on our e-commerce and third party retail channels where our customers increasingly choose to shop, while enabling us to operate more efficiently, and better serve customers in the long term," the spokesperson added.

Established in New York in 2004 by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, Malin + Goetz set out to "uncomplicate skincare", launching with six products designed to work for all skin types and selling out of their founders’ small apartment.

Over more than two decades, the brand has expanded into fragrances, bodycare and other beauty categories, becoming a recognised name in the global premium beauty market.
