MASAJ raises £1.5m to expand London massage studio network

London massage company MASAJ has raised £1.5 million in a funding round co-led by FIGR Ventures and Sorven Capital as it looks to expand its studio network and build what it describes as the UK's first scaled massage brand.

The investment takes the female-founded business's total funding to £2 million and will support new studio openings across London over the next 12 months, alongside team growth and further investment in the business.

Founded by Scarlet Amies and Alice Vaughan, MASAJ launched its first high street studio in 2021 with the aim of bringing greater consistency and professionalism to the massage sector for both customers and therapists.

The company currently operates three London studios, including a recently opened site in Islington, and says it has delivered more than 110,000 hours of massage since launch. It has also recorded more than 15,000 five-star reviews, achieved therapist retention of 90% and sees 40% of customers return every month. Revenue increased 43% year-on-year in its 2024/25 financial year.

The business argues that, while branded operators have transformed categories such as nails, brows, blow-dries and facials, massage remains a fragmented market dominated by hotel spas, independent operators and members' clubs.

Scarlet Amies, CEO and co-founder of MASAJ, said: "London's wellness market is fragmented, with no trusted brand delivering consistently high-quality massage at scale."

"We set out to fix that with modern, welcoming studios that offer a place for stillness, where every guest gets a brilliant treatment every time, and where therapists get stable, well-supported careers rather than gig-economy instability."

She added that the latest funding would enable the company to bring its concept to more locations across London.

The round also marks the first investment in MASAJ from a women-led venture capital fund, with FIGR Ventures joining the company's cap table and its Managing Director, Fiona O'Callaghan, taking a seat on the board.

O'Callaghan said: "Over the past decade, we've seen hyper-specialist brands transform one beauty and wellness category after another, but the massage industry remained a huge gap until MASAJ."

"When you treat therapists with care, they're better set up to do their best for guests, building the consistency and trust that creates a standout, scalable business."

MASAJ has also secured partnerships with brands including Nike, Gymshark and Home House as it continues to position itself within the premium wellness market.
