Medik8 CPO Daniel Isaacs reveals skincare ingredient trends for 2025
Ingredient-led formulations will be mainstream in 2025, driven by demand from savvy customers buying into strength-building ingredients and skin barrier health.
As part of this, scientific evidence and product efficacy is expected to play a substantial role in purchase decision-making, with discerning customers desiring patented skincare technology and dermatologist-approved formulations.
Daniel Isaacs, Chief Product Officer and founding partner of Medik8, shares his skincare ingredient trends for 2025.
Miniproteins
Being hailed as the next generation of peptide technology, miniproteins are "small but mighty". According to Isaacs, they slot in at the interface between peptides and proteins, taking on both characteristics for double the benefits.
"Their small size makes them similar to peptides in bioavailability and penetration into the skin; however, their ability to fold into a complex 3D structure allows them to fit into receptors and therefore gives them protein-like potency. Meaning, they are way more powerful than peptides due to their ability to penetrate the skin barrier and reach their target cells more effectively," explains Isaacs.
Photo Exosomes
Described as an emerging trend in scientific skincare and set to be a standout ingredient in 2025, this innovative plant ingredient is hailed for its skin-rejuvenating properties.
"Exosomes comprise a cocktail of natural bioactives encapsulated in a protective bubble, containing signalling molecules like peptides, nutrients, and other bioactives that can exert benefits on the skin. Due to their small size, the plant-sourced system delivers a handful of proteins, lipids and messenger molecules fast and effectively into the skin, sending signals to enhance the skin's health," says Isaacs.
MNI-antioxidant Acetyl Zingerone
Derived from ginger, MNI-antioxidant Acetyl Zingerone is labelled an 'omni' antioxidant due to its ability to defend against multiple types of free radicals, for optimal antioxidant protection.
"Expect to see it in vitamin C formulas acting as a booster due to its environmental protector properties," adds Isaacs.
