Merit teams up with fashion brand DONNI on fifth anniversary sweatshirt

Minimalist make-up brand Merit has teamed up with LA fashion brand DONNI on a limited edition sweatshirt to mark its fifth anniversary.

Merit, best known for its multifunctional make-up, first teamed up on a sweat with DONNI to mark its launch in 2021 and has gone one to blur the lines between fashion and beauty since.

It recent years it has launched collaborations with other like-minded fashion brands such as Proenza Schouler, Tove, CompletedWorks and Brandon Maxwell with whom it created limited edition tote bags, make-up bags and jewellery.

The latest tie-up has let to the creation of one of DONNI's signature sweats in Merit Blue with tonal embroidery spelling out "All things with intention". The slogan is a nod to the Merit approach to creating a tightly edited line-up of products that are simple to use and work hard for the customer, such as its multi-functional The Minimalist foundation/concealer stick or its Flush Balm cheek and lip colours.

Merit said the new sweatshirt with its low-key, easy to wear vibes summed up its approach but also spoke to its relevance to a fashion audience. "More than just a sweatshirt, the piece acts as a symbol of Merit’s evolution over five years - from a tightly edited beauty launch to a brand with genuine lifestyle relevance and credibility among fashion audiences," it said.

Merit was first launched in the US in 2021 having been founded by serial entrepreneur Katherine Power, known for building brands like Who What Wear and Versed Skincare. It launched its UK website in 2023 and last year signed a physical retail deal with Sephora UK.

Fashion and beauty collabs are gaining traction as like-minded brands seek to capitalise on their respective audiences. Cult Californian beauty brand Summer Fridays recently tied up with global fashion giant GAP on a range of sweats and loungewear. A second drop of the range was recently made in time for Valentine's Day.
