Men's grooming brand Murdock London has upgraded the packaging of its most popular formulas to jars made from 100% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic.

It comes as the global cosmetics market produces 120 billion units of packaging every year, according to recycling company TerraCycle.

Emphasising that PCR plastic carries a lower carbon footprint than virgin material as "recycling plastic requires less energy", the brand's new packaging aims to reclaim waste that might otherwise end up in landfills while supporting the circular economy.

The British business, which also operates three barbershops across London, hopes the move to PCR plastic will align it with upcoming environmental regulations, as it joins a growing number of like-minded organisations making steps towards sustainability.

The six formulas boasting the new and improved packaging include the brand's Sea Salt Paste, Matt Mud, Hair Play, Texture Paste, Beard Balm and Vintage Pomade.

Graham Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of Murdock London, said: "We are so proud of this transition to PCR jars. It’s been a long-term project that has revealed the incredible environmental benefits of choosing PCR.

"We are relentless in pursuing kinder, more impactful and more sustainable ways to serve our customers worldwide. That goal harmonises perfectly with the needs of customers that are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of packaging."
