Haircare brand Philip Kingsley has revealed that UK women are not washing their hair correctly, or indeed regularly enough, falling foul to hair myths that could be damaging the health of their hair and scalp.

According to new research, 49% of those surveyed don’t use a shampoo tailored to their specific hair texture and 24% have don’t or have never used a targeted shampoo.

Much how we mix up our skincare routine to suit the changes to our skin, Philip Kingsley is encouraging consumers to consider a shampoo wardrobe for hair’s changing needs as well.

With almost half of women (45%) shampooing their hair two to three times a week, the brand also highlights how consumers should be washing their hair for a full 60 seconds each wash.

It comes as over two fifths (44%) shampoo their hair for only 30 seconds to one minute and 9% shampoo for less than 30 seconds.

In relation to concerns around hair loss, 34% of women are worried over false claims that shampooing may increase hair loss and 18% don’t know that shampooing is essential for their scalp health.

Anabel Kingsley, Brand President and Lead Consultant at Philip Kingsley said: "There are no pros to NOT washing hair.

"I advocate daily hair washing. You wouldn’t leave more than three days between washing your face, and you likely wouldn’t wear the same outfit more than a few times before washing it – apply the same thinking to your hair and scalp."

Founded over 60 years ago, Philip Kingsley is a British haircare brand that puts trichology - the science of hair and scalp - at the core of its ethos.

Known for its range of high-performance haircare products, the brand is tailored for every hair texture to provide long term healthy hair.
