Penhaligon's launches immersive digital "mansion" on its website

British perfume brand Penhaligon's has launched an immersive digital "mansion" on its website, allowing visitors to virtually explore a space decorated with colourful furnishings and explore the brand's perfume collection.

The style of the house's interior is very reminiscent of the Victorian era, when the founder William Henry Penhaligon first started his London shop to later become perfumer to Queen Victoria.

The first room that visitors enter is referred to as the "drawing room" and is filled with paintings, rugs and furniture and sees colourful birds, butterflies and fish flying about - aligning with the brand's flowery branding.

Clicking on certain objects opens a tab displaying cocktail recipes, etiquette tips for gentlemen, or the profiles of perfumes for men and women.

When wandering into the "laboratory" a black and white avatar welcomes you to discover some of the perfumes sold by the brand, categorised by scent. Unlike the last room this one is filled with lush green plants and an old-fashioned wooden bar placed in the middle, manned by the avatar.

The visitor now has the option to have a look at spicy, floral or fresh scents, which are displayed as little signs hovering on the sides of the bar.

Clicking on any of these icons then reveals more options, which when clicked again launch a little pop-up window showing details of the associated perfume, while the avatar accompanies this with a story of what kind of fictional Victorian character would wear this particular scent.

The link to the virtual space can be found on Penhaligon's website by clicking "If These Walls Could Talk", or can be entered directly here.
