Rationale lands in UK with Harrods as demand grows for 'science-backed skincare'
Australian luxury skincare brand Rationale has officially launched in the UK, entering the market through an exclusive partnership with Harrods, both online and in-store.
The launch introduces Rationale’s cult-status formulations to British consumers, led by its signature Essential Six system (a structured skincare regimen designed around daily protection and overnight repair) alongside a curated edit of the brand’s solar-protective Beautiful Balms.
Founded in 1992 by cosmetic chemist Richard Parker, a respected skin researcher, Rationale has spent more than three decades building a reputation for rigorous, science-led skincare. Operating with its own in-house laboratory and manufacturing facility in Melbourne, the brand maintains end-to-end control over research, formulation and production.
At the heart of Rationale’s philosophy is Parker’s long-standing research into the impact of solar exposure on skin health. The brand is built around the belief that luminous, resilient skin is achieved not through trend-driven formulations, but through consistent support of the skin’s natural defence and repair mechanisms.
That approach is distilled into the Essential Six, a system targeting the six primary concerns associated with environmental and solar damage: barrier impairment, pigmentation, inflammation, dryness, texture refinement and regeneration. The collection is divided into three daytime products focused on protection and skin immunity, and three evening formulations designed to replenish, repair and renew.
Harrods’ Skincare and Haircare Buyer, Abigail Prince, said the decision to introduce Rationale reflected growing consumer demand for science-backed skincare.
"Rationale is an Australian skincare brand which we felt has a super interesting concept," she said. "They have a collection consisting of six pillars, with three designed for daytime protection and the other three for overnight repair. The AM products focus on skin immunity, while the PM products target barrier protection and replenishment."
Prince added: "Customers are increasingly well educated when it comes to skincare ingredients and formulations, and are therefore seeking science-backed, results-driven skincare. We feel Rationale addresses these needs."
