Retail Recap: The big beauty launches in July 2022

This month saw a variety of new beauty launches across the UK, from new brands and retail expansions to tech and product innovation.

TheIndustry.beauty has created a round-up featuring July's highlights from brands including REN Clean Skincare, Lush and Superdrug.

Drybar launches at Cult Beauty

US hair styling brand Drybar announced its launch at online beauty retailer Cult Beauty. Customers can now shop Drybar's range of products, tools and accessories including the brand's Double Shot Oval Blow-Dryer Brush, High Tip Self-Grip Rollers and Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist.

Fragrance brand Gabar launches at Liberty

Fragrance brand Gabar announced its launch at Liberty, becoming its first major retailer in the UK. Established in Myanmar, Gabar has three fragrances inspired by its Southeast Asian heritage.

US skincare brand Proven launches in UK and EU

Technology company Proven Skincare announced its international expansion, offering its personalised skincare solutions to customers in the EU and UK. The expansion, which comes after a period of "extraordinary growth" for the company, gives customers access to Proven’s cleaner, moisturiser, night cream, day eye cream and night eye cream.

Benefit Cosmetics to launch at M&S

Benefit Cosmetics announced a new partnership with M&S Beauty. The partnership will see the beauty brand launch online and in-store at the department store in AW22. Five M&S stores will be home to a Benefit Cosmetics counter, with beauty experts available to assist customers on makeup products. An additional ten stores will also stock the brand's products, displayed in a bespoke Benefit Cosmetics fixture.

Mama Mio launches at Boots

Pregnancy skincare brand Mama Mio launched at over 400 Boots stores across the UK. With over 17 years of pregnancy skincare experience, the THG-owned brand provides formulas to protect and support skin stretching during and post pregnancy.

Ariana Grande’s r.e.m. beauty to launch in UK

Ariana Grande’s r.e.m. beauty is making its brick and mortar retail debut in the UK, launching online and in-store at Selfridges next month. Coming to Selfridges in London, Manchester and Birmingham, the r.e.m. beauty offering will feature the brand's full range of vegan cosmetics including its eyeliner marker, eyeshadows, lipsticks and skin prep products.

Bourjois taps Superdrug for return to UK market

Coty-owned Bourjois re-entered the UK market exclusively at Superdrug, available online at the beauty retailer and in-store over the coming months. The announcement comes after Bourjois ceased trading in the UK in 2019, following a decline in sales and the decision from its owner to focus on priority consumer brands

REN Clean Skincare launches at Boots

REN Clean Skincare announced its launch at Boots. The launch is part of the health and beauty retailer's plan to "reinvent" beauty on the high street and provide more sustainable options to its customers. REN Clean Skincare offers a range of skincare products including its Everclam, Radiance, Bio Retinoid, Moroccan Rose and Atlantic Kelp collections.

JLo Beauty expands into bodycare

JLo Beauty by Jennifer Lopez announced its first category expansion with the launch of a new bodycare range, JLo Body. The Firm + Flaunt Targeted Booty Balm is the first clinically tested formula to launch under the JLo Body franchise.

Sabrina and Idris Elba launch S'able Labs skincare

Sabrina and Idris Elba launched a new vegan skincare brand under their existing lifestyle business, S'able Labs.  Priced between £28 and £50, the brand features three genderless skincare products to create a simplified routine that works to minimise hyperpigmentation, brighten, moisturise, strengthen and replenish the skin's barrier.

Holland & Barrett introduces new superfoods skincare range

Holland & Barrett announced the launch of a new superfood-infused skincare range, Pip & Pod. The range claims to provide a ‘five-a-day for your face’, and contains 11 products to "help customers curate a regime best suited to their individual skin needs, from scrubs, cleansers and glow drops to serums, masks and facial mists".

Perfect Corp unveils AI Personality Finder for personalised product recommendations

Beauty and fashion tech solutions provider Perfect Corp launched a new AI Personality Finder to deliver a more personalised product matching experience to consumers. Using Perfect Corp’s patented AgileFace technology, the AI Personality Finder pairs AI-powered facial features mapping with psychological data to identify key personality traits and provide consumers with product recommendations across beauty, fashion and fragrance.

Lush launches new app to boost wellness

Lush launched a new app to encourage its customers to take time for themselves. The Lush Bathe app is designed to track and maximise the benefits of bathing, assisted by immersive audio-visual experiences. During the creation of the new app, Lush has collaborated with a range of wellbeing experts, practitioners, sound healers and mentors to create a series of in-app exclusive transformative meditative experiences.

Superdrug signs over 200 brands to upcoming marketplace

Superdrug signed over 200 brands for the upcoming launch of its new online marketplace, which will see brands partner with the retailer to offer products through the service for the first time. The new platform, called Superdrug Marketplace, will be integrated into the retailer's existing website and feature a wide selection of brands from premium to start-ups.

Perfect Corp expands into male grooming with new virtual try-on

Beauty and fashion tech solutions provider Perfect Corp expanded its range of in-app offerings with a new AI and AR-powered virtual try-on for beard styles. This expansion within the men’s grooming category is available via Perfect Corp's YouCam Makeup app and aims to help users visualise different beard styles on their face.
