Last Friday, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, abolishing the constitutional right to abortion across the US and paving the way for individual states to heavily restrict or ban the procedure.

Following this decision, many beauty brands have issued statements to support those who will be affected by the law change. TheIndustry.beauty looks at the beauty brands using their funds to help, with some covering travel expenses and offering charity donations.

Benefit Cosmetics

With its partner Planned Parenthood, Benefit Cosmetics has announced it will cover the travel expenses for all employees who need safe healthcare options where their reproductive rights are challenged.

In a statement, Benefit Cosmetics said: "While the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade erases much of the United States’ progress in those 50 years, our commitment to women’s rights, and women’s access to wellness, remains stronger than ever."

REN Clean Skincare

Furthering its commitment to giving its employees comprehensive healthcare benefits and choice, REN Clean Skincare has announced it will cover the travel costs for employees and dependents if procedures are no longer available in their home states in the US.

Michelle Brett, CEO of REN Clean Skincare, said: “REN Clean Skincare remains committed to supporting staff members in the wake of Roe v Wade’s overturning and wholeheartedly believe that access to safe reproductive healthcare is a right everyone deserves, no matter where you live.”

Murad

Skincare brand Murad has taken to Instagram to outline the "concrete actions" the brand is taking to address reproductive healthcare. Murad will cover the travel and medical costs of reproductive medical care for employees who reside in a state where this is now restricted. The brand also plans to allow employees to choose healthcare providers in other states if a provider is not available where they live.

The Body Shop

Leading with the message "your body. your choice", The Body Shop has responded to the decision by making a $25,000 donation to Planned Parenthood. The brand will also be providing support to employees affected, including any members of its US collective who may need expense reimbursement so they can secure safe care where it is legally available.

Aesop

Aesop is donating $50,000 each to the Centre for Reproductive Rights and MSI Reproductive Choices to support reproductive justice and bodily autonomy. The brand has also announced it will be providing financial and travel support for staff who can no longer access healthcare where they live.

Tatcha

Tatcha, which recently launched in the UK for the first time, has committed to providing its employees with comprehensive reproductive healthcare benefits. As part of its healthcare benefits that give access to reproductive health, Tatcha will ensure travel costs are covered for US employees if reproductive health care is no longer available in their home state.

Pattern Beauty

Pattern Beauty by Tracee Ellis Ross is donating to Planned Parenthood, who help to offer equal access to reproductive healthcare, assistance and support across the US. The amount of the donation was not disclosed.

In a statement on Instagram, Pattern Beauty said: "The Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is a dangerous, calculated and regressive curtailment of women's rights, and of our status as free and equal citizens; stripping women and birthing people of their right to govern their own bodies. Pattern always stands with democracy and human rights and we support reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy."

Rhode

New skincare brand Rhode by Hailey Bieber is donating to Plan C, the National Network of Abortion Funds and the AFIYA Center. In a post on Instagram, the brand has also provided resources to help those affected by the decision. This includes websites and phone numbers for reproductive health services, free medical advice and places for people to get involved.

Boy Smells

Fragrance brand Boy Smells has announced its plans to donate $5,000 to Planned Parenthood and is encouraging people to join its fundraiser to help the non-profit's work to defend people's abortion rights. Boy Smells has so far raised over £8,000 for Planned Parenthood.
