Sam McKnight debuts first series of NFTs to celebrate book re-print
Celebrated hair stylist Sam McKnight has released his first series of NFTs – depicting supermodels Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Gigi Hadid – to mark the re-print of his sell-out book 'Hair by Sam McKnight'.
First released in 2017 and reprinted last month, Hair by Sam McKnight, is an anthology of the stylist's career in fashion, celebrity and editorial. For its reprint it has been updated with more recent examples of his work.
Three seminal moments have been captured in NFT form via hand-drawn digital artworks created by Helsinki-based artist Laura Laine. The are available to purchase from sammcknight.com and also from NFT marketplace Weyu.
Each NFT is priced at £200 and buyers will also receive a copy of the updated Hair by Sam McKnight book, which is priced at £80, along with an exclusive invitation to attend an 'In Conversations with Sam McKnight' digital event. All proceeds from the sale of the NFTs will go to charity Beauty Banks, which supports people in the UK living in hygiene poverty.
McKnight said of the project: "I'm someone who looks forward. I embrace the new and find change exciting because it provides opportunity to learn and grow. The fashion industry is evolving fast and I see NFTs as an exciting new stage for creators like me to showcase their work. I'm thrilled with the way Laura has placed hair at the heart of each NFT in such a bold, creative and fun way."
Artist Laura Laine added: "I was very excited to work with Sam McKnight since he is such a legend in his field, and I'm continually inspired by his work. I love drawing hair so for me this was a dream job. It was a lot of fun to imagine new surreal dimensions to McKnight's already voluminous creations."
