Sanctuary Spa lands at Tesco in bid to drive accessibility and sales

Sanctuary Spa is launching at Tesco, strengthening its retail footprint across the UK after a slowdown in sales.

From mid-March, the brand's products will be stocked on the shelves of 584 Tesco stores up and down the country, with all five of its different fragrance collections available at larger stores.

Sanctuary Spa’s expansion into Tesco follows its launch at Waitrose last year, joining the brand’s existing UK retailers, including Boots, Amazon, Sainsbury's and Superdrug.

Peter Stocks, Global Head of Brand for Sanctuary Spa, said:
"We are delighted to launch Sanctuary Spa into Tesco, offering our full portfolio of decadent fragrance ranges, with natural moisture benefits in innovative and indulgent textures.

"Tesco is the perfect partner for Sanctuary Spa, allowing more beauty consumers to add a little self-care pick me up to their shopping basket or trolley. We are also very excited as Sanctuary Spa will disrupt the washing and bathing category in 117 Tesco stores, with a shelf-stopping branded fixture bringing the premium codes of luxury body care into the aisle and the spa-grade experience of Sanctuary Spa onto the shop floor."

The move forms part of Sanctuary Spa's strategy to "make self-care moments as accessible and easy to incorporate as possible".

It follows a decrease in revenue from its owner PZ Cussons for the six months ending 2 December 2023, with "strong" growth across UK personal care and Childs Farm offset by declines at a number of the group's beauty brands, particularly Sanctuary Spa.

It said Sanctuary Spa was the primary driver of the overall decline, which was partly a result of a smaller but more profitable Christmas gifting product portfolio and compares to a better performance in the comparative period.

Nevertheless, it added that the performance fell below expectations due to "insufficient innovation and unsatisfactory execution".

Founded in 1988, Sanctuary Spa grew out of its eponymous spa that previously operated in Covent Garden. It is known for its selection of body washes, scrubs, creams, and spa-inspired pampering products.
