Shoppers urged to Back Beauty now as industry suffers under lockdown 2

UK consumers are lending their support to a new initiative to support the front-line beauty industry as it navigates the challenging waters of a second national lockdown.

With salons and stores closed once again at what would traditionally be the busiest period of the year for the industry, a new campaign, which calls on consumers to Back Beauty now and help it survive the latest income body-blow, is gaining traction.

Spearheaded by beauty expert and blogger Caroline Hirons, the new Back Beauty campaign follows the launch of her Beauty Backed campaign earlier this year.

With the support of The British Beauty Council and the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) the Beauty Backed campaign has raised nearly £600,000 for the industry’s Hair & Beauty Charity to date.

The latest initiative calls on shoppers to "Back Beauty" in three clear ways:

Book future appointments now so that beauty professionals have a full diary of potential income to look forward to post lockdown

Buy beauty gift vouchers for friends and family this Christmas, or for personal indulgence in the new year.

Buy normal skincare products from them via online or telephone sales.

“We’re in another lockdown, in what is, traditionally, the busiest period of the year for beauty,” Hirons said.

“If you work in our industry, November and December are fully booked.

“The British Beauty Council estimates about a third of a business’s annual turnover is taken in the last three months of the year.

“We want the beauty industry to survive this second hit to their income.

“They need our help to stay afloat while they once again cannot work and to be able to reopen when this second lockdown is over.

“And there’s a very real way we can help them do it: Back. Book. Buy Beauty.”
