Social media application Snapchat has launched a new augmented reality shopping experience to improve e-commerce on the app for consumers and brands.

New catalog-powered shopping lenses will offer an AR try-on shopping interface that allows users to quickly access product information including prices, descriptions and unique URLs via Lens Product Cards to purchase the products they try-on.

For brands, the social media platform will provide real-time results to track consumer trends and product engagement through these AR experiences.

Snapchat's Lens Web Builder for beauty brands has also received an upgrade, which aims to provide brands with an easier way to create shopping lenses. Launched last year, the Lens Web Builder is a free web creation tool for brands to create an AR experience on Snapchat.

According to Snapchat, its users engage with AR more than six billion times per day.

Jeremi Gorman, Chief Business Officer at Snap Inc, said: "Augmented reality is changing the way we shop, play and learn. It is transforming how businesses tell their stories and sell their products. Starting today, our revamped AR Shopping Lenses will mean a more engaging experience for our Snapchat community and enable a faster, easier way to build lenses for businesses."
