Spabreaks.com acquired by Excalibur Group to accelerate expansion
Spabreaks.com has been acquired by Excalibur Group as part of its strategy to accelerate growth and unlock new opportunities for both the business and its spa partners.
Excalibur Group, a diversified holding company with a portfolio of consumer brands such as Wowcher and LivingSocial, will strengthen its position in the market through the acquisition of Spabreaks.com.
As part of this, the strategic addition brings Spabreaks.com’s expertise in curating premium, luxury spa experiences into Excalibur’s deal platform ecosystem, "enhancing the group’s ability to deliver exceptional value and quality to its customers".
The acquisition marks a step forward in Spabreaks.com’s growth journey. Founded in 2007, the business works with over 560 spas in the UK and Northern Ireland, arranging spa days and breaks for over 6,000 people to every week. Its website also sees more than a million unique visitors each month.
Abi Selby, founder of Spabreaks.com and Chair of the UK Spa Association, said: "It's been a fantastic 18-year journey for the Spabreaks.com brand and for me personally, as we’ve gone from a start-up to becoming a household name.
"Excalibur Group’s expertise will help us build on our success to date and accelerate growth whilst very much continuing to stay true to the legacy of the brand and its founding mission statement - championing the spa and wellness industry, and making spas more accessible to all. This has always been and remains, a core part of our identity."
"We are confident this new chapter will unlock significant opportunities for our brand and our spa partners, helping us to take Spabreaks.com from strength to strength."
The acquisition is expected to generate operational efficiencies by combining Excalibur Group’s resources with Spabreaks.com’s existing capabilities.
The Spabreaks.com brand will continue to operate independently following the acquisition, with its website and marketing remaining unchanged and the business operating as usual. The management team and wider staff will also remain with the business.
George Oborne, CEO at the Excalibur Group, said: "Spabreaks.com has demonstrated impressive growth in recent years and this partnership represents an important step in strengthening our presence in the spa and wider services sector.
"Spabreaks.com will continue to operate independently, ensuring it remains the market leader in spa discovery while benefiting from the additional support and investment we can provide."
