Summer Fridays Chief Executive John Heffner is retiring after more than six years in the role, with the brand now initiating a search for a new CEO.

Heffner has led the company since 2020 and will remain CEO while the board searches for his replacement. After a new appointment is made, he is expected to transition into an advisory role, the brand told WWD.

His departure follows more than 40 years in the beauty industry, including senior roles at P&G, Unilever, Creative Nail Design, OPI and Drybar.

"After more than 40 years in the beauty industry, I’ve learned that the best brands are never about one person. They’re about the founders, the team, the products and the community that believes in them," Heffner said.

"Summer Fridays has cultivated an exceptional brand and customer base, and I feel lucky to have played a part in its story. Marianna, Lauren and the entire team have built a business with real staying power, and I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together."

During his tenure, Heffner oversaw the US-based brand’s expansion and product innovation, as well as its investment from TSG Consumer in 2024.

"John has brought wisdom, heart and steady leadership to Summer Fridays, and we are deeply grateful for his guidance and unwavering belief in our vision," said Hewitt and Ireland. "John has been an extraordinary partner, and his impact on our brand, team and business has been immeasurable."

Founded in 2018, Summer Fridays first gained attention with its popular Jet Lag Mask, designed to hydrate and refresh tired skin. Since then, it has expanded into a wider range of products including moisturisers, cleansers, lip balms and treatments that focus on gentle but effective skincare.
