Superdrug's second 'more sustainable' store concept lands in Bedford
Superdrug has opened a new store in Bedford, marking the evolution of its 'more sustainable' store concept, which first launched in Peterborough in 2021.
The new 6,000 sq ft store has created 25 new jobs and focuses on making a positive environmental and social impact through its design, construction and operations.
It forms part of the health and beauty retailer's 'More Sustainable Store Project', which aims to build, maintain and operate stores with reduced environmental impacts.
As part of this initiative, Superdrug is committed to running stores with maximum energy efficiency using renewable energy and responsible building materials.
It also pledges to support customers to shop more consciously through its own-brand ranges, which feature recycled packaging and vegan and cruelty-free products.
The new store uses 100% green electricity, reduced LED lighting and using recycled IT equipment, as well as a reduction of skincare carcasses on shelves, new signage made from 100% recycled coated fabrics, and more.
It also features a Beauty Studio area, where customers can access professional treatments at affordable prices, including threading, waxing nail and piercing services.
Contributing to its charitable initiatives, the new store will also raise money for Superdrug's charity partner, Marie Curie, as well as host a Beauty Banks collection point, which allows shoppers to donate products to help tackle hygiene poverty across the UK.
Nigel Duxbury, Property Director at Superdrug, said: "We are incredibly proud to announce the opening of our new Bedford store, where the environmental and social impact of the store has been the focus of its development, construction and design from conception to reality.
"We’re confident we are listening and working with our customers to continually improve our sustainability credentials, and this is reflected within the Bedford Interchange store. The team at Superdrug look forward to expanding on these conscious changes and implementing them in further stores nationwide."
