Superdrug's Quality and Technical Manager Shona Bear has been appointed Vice President of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists.

In the role, Bear will look to advance the science of cosmetics by working with the next generation of cosmetic scientists.

Bear joined Superdrug in February 2020. Prior to this, she worked as Technical Lead for Home and Beauty at M&S.

As Vice President of SCS, Bear will work with the current President Sam Farmer and past President Laura Kirkbride to help push forward the society's five year strategy and ensure the SCS delivers benefits into the future.

The aims of the society include promoting high ethical standards in cosmetic science, advance the science of cosmetics and toiletries, maximise the accessibility of society activities and encourage participation throughout the profession.

One of the society’s main aims this year will be to offer support and development opportunities to universities that offer cosmetic science degrees.

Shona Bear, newly appointed VP of the SCS, said: “I’m delighted to be taking on the VP role at the SCS and am looking forward to helping to develop the next generation of cosmetic scientists. In the work that I do at Superdrug, we are always looking at how we can advance our cosmetics and so to be able to be part of a society that supports the new members of the industry is a pleasure.”

Simon Commins, CCO at Superdrug, added: “We are so happy for Shona and her new appointment. Superdrug as a retailer is really investing in development and support of the next generation, and so to have members of the team going out and doing that in other areas of the industry is great to see and we congratulate Shona on her new role.”
