Superdry’s board has been shown up as embarrassingly naive about Julian Dunkerton’s standing in the City
It wasn’t so long ago that Superdry chief executive Euan Sutherland seemed superglued into an on-brand biker jacket, happily mingling with the founders at a noisy bash at the brand’s Regent Street store. Back in 2015 Julian Dunkerton cheerfully told anyone who would listen how delighted he was to focus on his creative role and let Sutherland deal with the City.
Yet he has now burst back into Superdry’s boardroom in the most audacious way. Dunkerton’s campaign to install himself and Boohoo’s chairman, Peter Williams, as directors counts as a rare success for rebellious founders of listed companies.
